The Kitsap Conservation District is now spending the remaining $40,000 from the Local Farm Purchasing Assistance program, money that helped more than a dozen farms locally.

The LFPA initiative gave out $900 million to 50 states to buy locally grown foods, which sent fresh produce to 255 food banks in Washington.

At one Kitsap food bank, the amount of fresh produce available could drop from 7,800 pound to just 300 pounds this fall.
