SALT LAKE CITY — Cool and wet weather became an aid to firefighters on Friday as the Beulah Fire reached 5,712 acres on Saturday.

The U.S. Forest Service stated in a news release that wet conditions helped to ease the fire to a 52% complete status.

“Daily showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the week, with wetter conditions reducing the fire’s ability to torch (burn into treetops) or spot (send embers beyond the perimeter),” the forest service said.

Although slowed down by weather, the forest service said the fire may continue to spread due to shifting winds.

“Some heat remains within the fire area, and the rugged Uinta terrain may cause shifting winds, leading to potential fire movement.”
