A contemporary Western film has been hailed by fans as a "masterpiece", with one saying it's "almost too real to process". The Rider (2017) is a unique independent film set in the US state of South Dakota that uses untrained actors and blurs the boundary between documentary and fiction.

The lead, Brady Jandreau, plays Brady Blackburn, inhabiting a character named after himself and loosely based on his own life. In the story, Brady is a former promising rodeo star living in poverty with his dad and teenage sister after a catastrophic head injury that left him prone to seizures and unable to ride.
