Mingus Reedus, son of "The Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus and model Helena Christensen, has been arrested and charged with assault.

The New York City Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY that Reedus, 25, was taken into custody after police responded to an assault in progress on Saturday, Aug. 23. Upon arrival, officers observed a 33-year-old woman with "minor injuries" to her neck and leg, police said.

Reedus was charged with assault, harassment and criminal obstruction of breathing. He has pleaded not guilty. An investigation remains ongoing, according to police.

Priya Chaudhry, an attorney for Reedus, said in a statement to USA TODAY, "Mingus is presumed innocent and has pled not guilty. As the facts emerge, his innocence will become clear."

Chaudhry also said that "they chose to charge Mingus with misdemeanors or less," which "speaks volumes," adding, "Equally important, the judge released Mingus on his own recognizance, with neither bail nor supervision. That significant judicial decision amplifies the volume."

This isn't Reedus' first time facing allegations.

In 2022, Reedus pled guilty to disorderly conduct after he was accused of punching a 24-year-old woman in the face, according to People. Reedus' attorney described the allegations to People as "baseless" and said that he was "the victim."

At the time, Reedus told the New York Daily News that he "threw his arm out" to protect himself and accidentally hit the woman at the San Gennaro festival in New York. He alleged that the woman and her friends were the aggressors and told the outlet they "were under the influence and looking for a fight."

Reedus has worked with brands including Calvin Klein, walking the runway for the brand at New York Fashion Week in 2017. He began his modeling career after being scouted at a music festival at age 16, according to an interview he gave to Vanity Teen.

"My first modeling gig was a runway for Calvin Klein," he told the outlet. "I was terrified but ended up having a great time. Very thankful for everything."

In 2022, Reedus attended a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony to support his dad. The "Walking Dead" actor welcomed his son with his then-partner Helena Christensen in 1999. The couple split in 2003. Norman Reedus went on to date Diane Kruger, with whom he welcomed a child in 2018.
