A firefighter was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 South in Guilford on Friday night.

State police said 32-year-old Michael Terrio was driving on I-95 South near exit 59 around 8:45 p.m. when he hit the vehicle in front of him.

Terrio was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital where he later died.

Guilford Fire Department released a statement saying in part:

"It is with great sadness that the Town of Guilford and the Guilford Fire Department announce the passing of Firefighter Michael Terrio, an active member of our department.
