CLEVELAND, Ohio - A 37-year-old woman died early Sunday morning after her vehicle was struck by a suspected drunken driver fleeing from Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s deputies in Cleveland, officials said.
The incident began at approximately 1:16 a.m. when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle traveling without headlights near St. Clair Avenue and East 13th Street, the county said in a news release. Names were not released.
The driver, identified as a 24-year-old male, refused to stop and sped eastbound on St. Clair Avenue after deputies received supervisory approval to pursue.
Just two minutes into the chase, at approximately 1:18 a.m., the suspect’s vehicle collided with the woman’s vehicle at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue and Addison Road, authorities said.
