HEATH SPRINGS, S.C. (WBTV) - A person was killed in a motorcycle crash in Lancaster County on Saturday night, officials said.

The wreck happened just before 9 p.m. on Aug. 23 along Major Evans Road near JB Denton Road in the Heath Springs area.

According to the , the motorcyclist was the only person involved in the crash. Troopers said the wreck happened when the rider went off the right side of the road, overcorrected back onto the road and crashed.

The rider -- who had not publicly been identified as of Sunday morning -- died at the scene.

Troopers did not say what caused the motorcyclist to go off the road, but said the crash was still under Highway Patrol investigation.
