A tropical wave that was headed for the Caribbean Sea Sunday morning has some chance of developing into a named storm this week, according to the National Hurricane Center . But forecasters said the system's development could be inhibited by harsh environmental conditions later on.

Located about 200 miles east of the Windward Islands as of 7 a.m. Sunday, forecasters said the system was producing showers and thunderstorms but was not showing other characteristics critical to tropical storm formation. An Air Force reconnaissance aircraft was scheduled to investigate the system Sunday afternoon.
