It’s been 40 years since childhood friends Emily Saliers and Amy Ray, post-college, reunited to begin performing as Indigo Girls and released their first single, “Crazy Game.” And, as we know, they haven’t looked back since.
The Georgia duo has released 15 studio albums and four live sets, with seven certified gold and platinum. They’ve appeared on songs by Joan Baez, P!nk, Brandi Carlile and Anne Murray, have toured incessantly — including as part of Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair touring festival — and have established footholds in civil rights and environmental activism. Both have released solo albums, while Ray founded a record label (Daemon) and Saliers is working on a stage musical, “Starstruck,” that debuts early next year at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope, Pa.
