A 19-year-old woman was killed early Sunday when the car she was riding in with four other people ran into a large tree, police said.
The Newtown Police Department , with the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire , and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance responded to a single vehicle accident on Berkshire Road just before 3 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The victim who died was identified as Mary Cordero, 19, of Danbury, police said.
The crash occurred just west of its intersection with Zoar Road, police said.
Police said the crews on scene determined there were multiple patients with significant injuries and mutual aid was requested.
The investigation determined a red 2017 Ford Mustang GT was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road, also known as Route 34, at “a high rate of speed,” and as it “approached
