NEWTOWN, Connecticut — A 19-year-old Danbury woman was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Berkshire Road, according to Newtown police.

Emergency crews responded to the scene near the intersection of Zoar Road around 2:41 a.m. and found a red 2017 Ford Mustang GT that had struck a tree.

Police said the vehicle had been traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at a high rate of speed when the driver failed on a left-hand curve, causing the car to veer off the road and hit the tree head-on.

The vehicle was carrying five people. Mary Cordero, 19, who was seated in the rear middle seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. The four other occupants were transported to Danbury Hospital with injuries, two of which are in critical condition, police said.
