BATON ROUGE ― Matt Mauck led LSU football to a national championship in 2003, the first title for the storied program in nearly 50 years at the time.

A tradition was born. Since that season, LSU has awarded the No. 18 jersey to the player or players that embody what it is be a great teammate and possess all the intangibles that the coaching staff looks for to help the lead the team.

Senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been honored with the No. 18 jersey for the 2025 season, becoming the first quarterback since Mauck to wear the number. Those around the program have expected Nussmeier to be awarded the beloved jersey. BUY LSU FOOTBALL TICKETS
