STATEWIDE -- Over the past couple weeks The Maine Forest Service has responded to several wildfires, and with the continued windy conditions and elevated fire danger throughout much of the state, rangers are on high alert.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for elevated fire weather danger in parts of the state due to a dry air mass and breezy conditions: Central Highlands, Baxter Region, far northern Washington County and eastern Aroostook County.

The Daily Wildfire Danger was once again ranging from moderate to very high across the state.

According to the Maine Forest Service, the online open burning permit system was shut off for almost all of Maine on Sunday.
