Sunday was a big day for more than 1,100 first year students who moved into campus residences at Toronto Metropolitan University a week before the start of classes.

For those paying the bills, however, the cost of living loomed large over the day.

Cailey Dirksen, originally from Ottawa, said she was "full of nerves" on Sunday as she moved into her new dorm room, but she thinks living on campus at least for the first year of university is a good way to meet new friends. Dirksen is enrolled in performance production.

"I'm really excited but also nervous, understandably. I'm going to miss my mom. I'm going to miss my home. But there's going to be so many new adventures," Dirksen said.
