COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) - A search is underway Sunday afternoon in Colleton County for a passenger who ran from authorities.

Officers with the Yemassee Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 17-A for speeding; however, the stolen vehicle took off into Colleton County.

The vehicle chase ended on Highway 21 near I-95 when the automobile stalled and caught fire.

Officials said both occupants took off. The driver, identified as Justin Bessinger, was apprehended by a K9 officer. Authorities are still looking for a female.

The police department identified the female as Emily Higgins and described her as being 5'2", 120 lbs, with green eyes, brown hair, and wearing a light gray outfit.
