An estimated 40,000-gallon stew of storm- and wastewater spilled into Horsepen Creek on Saturday from manholes at Jones Avenue and 8th Street on Tybee Island after nearly 5.4 inches of rain drenched already saturated soils, according to a press release from the city's Outreach Director Cassidi Kendrick.
But there was no disruption to the city's potable water treatment and supply system, said Kendrick, and no boil water advisory was necessary.
The sewage spill is the third on the southern end of the island community, stated Kendrick, as high rainfalls have overwhelmed an aging sanitary sewer system.
