GULF SHORES — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will send investigators to the scene of a small plane crash in Gulf Shores.

The single-engine plane went down around 2 p.m. on Sunday across the street from the Gulf Shores International Airport.

Grant Brown, with the City of Gulf Shores, told 1819 News the plane clipped a tree upon landing, spun around and crashed into a vacant lot between Alabama Coastal Community College and the Gulf Shores Tourism Center.

The pilot and his wife were able to evacuate the plane. They were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Brown said that because the crash occurred where it did, traffic was not impacted, and airport operations continued without interruption.
