TROY N.Y. (NEWS10) — Sunday marked Ukrainian Independence Day, and here in the Capital Region, the Ukrainian community came together in prayer and commemoration.
At St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, the community came together for a prayer for peace. This was a way to remember the loved ones overseas while reflecting on what Independence Day means for them during a time of war.
The prayer for peace was during their morning liturgies. Father Mikhail Myshchuk told News10's Tyanna Xavier what they hoped for when praying.
“Peace that will be lasting means that it will last, not if it's unjust, and then it's not going to be lasting. And that's what we pray for today. And we ask our almighty God to do so, to change the hearts of man, and to make them desire peace,” said Father Myshchuk.
