One of Erie's most well-known heritage festivals concluded after a weekend of fun.

Zabawa had its final day of celebration Sunday, and organizers said the event was an overwhelming success thanks to months of hard work and volunteers.

Students from Gannon and Mercyhurst Universities volunteered all weekend long to ensure the festival ran smoothly.

Organizers also said a record number of pierogis were sold quickly.

Ray Luniewski said, "They have been phenomenal. We have had kids here start to finish, and they're gonna help us pack up all this up tonight. It's great to see the young people, especially those of us older ones who can't haul that stuff anymore. They're doing a lot of that, but what great exposure they're giving the schools here."
