A large crowd of adults, teenagers and children stood, sang and prayed by the Joe Louis fist monument Sunday afternoon, Aug. 24, on Jefferson Avenue in downtown Detroit to support Ukrainian Independence Day.

More than 100 people showed up with Ukrainian flags and signs reading “Support Ukraine” to mark the 34 th anniversary of Ukraine’s sovereignty and ongoing fight for peace.
