Ukrainians in Calgary gathered outside City Hall on Sunday for a flag-raising ceremony to mark the 34th anniversary of Ukrainian independence.

Anna Tselukhina, rally committee chair for the Calgary branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, said the day was both a celebration and a reminder of the ongoing sacrifices behind the fight for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
