COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Multiple police departments responded Sunday to an active shooter situation on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

According to Carolina Alert, there was an active shooter at the Thomas Cooper Library on the Columbia campus.

At around 7:10 p.m., a Carolina Alert was issued saying there was no evidence of an active shooter, but police were still searching.

A shelter in place was also issued until there is an all clear given.

Officials urge to avoid the area, and anyone on campus to evacuate, barricade, and defend.
