COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Multiple police departments responded Sunday to an active shooter situation on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
A Carolina Alert was issued was just after 6:30 p.m. stating there was an active shooter at the Thomas Cooper Library.
At around 7:10 p.m., another Carolina Alert was issued saying there was no evidence of an active shooter, but police were still searching the area. The person authorities were looking for was described as a six-foot-tall white male wearing a black shirt.
A spokesperson for USC confirmed to WIS that no injuries were reported and there were no confirmed reports of shots fired.
Thomas Cooper Library and the surrounding areas will remain closed on Sunday out of an abundance of caution.
