It took less than half an hour for 45 firefighters to put out flames in a room inside a single-story church in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles.
The fire was reported at 3:17 p.m. Saturday in the church at 1339 E. Pleasant Ave., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. The flames were out at 3:45 p.m.
The quick effort prevented the flames from spreading to the sanctuary, damaging religious artifacts or causing injury, Humphrey said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.
