AUSTINTOWN - Gunshots rang out on a street in Austintown Sunday evening from an alleged custody battle.

Austintown Police arrived to the scene on Baylor Avenue around 7:30 p.m. where shell casings could be seen on the road and in the front yard of a home.

Austintown's Detective Lieutenant Shawn Hevener tells 21 News the incident stemmed from a alleged custody dispute which led to a verbal altercation in the streets between groups of people. During the verbal altercation, gunshots were fired.

Shortly after, police pulled over a vehicle a couple of blocks away from the scene where they recovered a firearm.

Multiple people have been detained and are being questioned. Officers believe the suspect is among one of the detainees.

No one was injured and no damage was done to nearby houses.
