August is Minority Donor Awareness Month, an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the last three decades and reflect on some of the challenges. National Minority Donor Awareness month began in 1996 as National Minority Donor Awareness Week, a program started by the Minority Organ Tissue Transplant Education Program (MOTTEP) to bring attention to the disproportionate rates of organ failure and the need for increased donation from the minority community.
