DENTON, Texas — Parents at Ryan High School are demanding more transparency from Denton ISD after they say they discovered through news reports that one student stabbed another Friday morning .

An email from the district to families about the incident described the emergency response as assisting a "student in need of medical attention." It made no mention of the stabbing.

The stabbing occurred around 9:10 a.m. Friday, according to Denton Police. Police said one student stabbed another with a weapon, sending the victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was immediately detained at the scene and later taken to the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
