HARTFORD, S.D. (KELO) -- A pair of female race car drivers are blazing a new path for women and girls in the sprint car division, both on the track and in the shop.
Bayley Ballenger and Gracyn Masur have competed throughout South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota this summer. The two have been around the sport their entire lives. Masur attended races with her father, Jay, the owner of MED-Star Ambulance Service. She then decided to get behind the wheel herself. Ballenger is following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather, who both race.
"That's just what I grew up around," Ballenger said. "I love sprint cars so much I don't think I'll ever be able to get away from it."
They have formed a strong bond with each other through being a small minority on the track.
