The new major general became a foot soldier again for the day as Andy Moran got back into the championship trenches for the first time in three years in Charlestown yesterday.

He didn’t have to climb over, though, his Ballaghaderreen team – 3-13 to 2-12 winners – keeping their hosts sufficiently at arm’s length to ensure they didn’t have to ‘break glass’ and call on their one-time Footballer of the Year and now Mayo football’s chief guiding hand.
