TYLER, Texas — A woman left a pregnant dog inside a car that reached 129 degrees while she was inside a Tyler restaurant, documents and a local nonprofit say.

Ashley Summers was booked into the Smith County Jail on a cruelty to non-livestock animals after animal control and police officers responded to the parking lot of Golden Corral.

According to an arrest affidavit, the dog was in visible distress, heavily panting and salivating excessively.

"Although the windows were partially rolled down, it was apparent that this was insufficient to prevent the dog from suffering serious injury or death due to the heat," the document read.
