The Defense Department announced Sunday that National Guard patrol units in Washington, D.C. will start to carry service weapons at the direction of Secretary Pete Hegseth. An unnamed official at the DoD reported that units will carry M4 rifles or M17 pistols while on patrol, but that administrative and transport units will remain unarmed.
