BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - It was this day in 1927 that history was made on the long trail.

That’s when Hilda Kurth and Kathleen Norris of Schenectady, New York, along with Catherine Robbins of Cornwall, became the first women to hike the entire trail.

They made the 270-mile trek from Massachusetts to Canada in just over a month. The achievement received much fanfare and shattered the notion that women weren’t cut out for some pursuits.
