DANVILLE, Ky. — Balloons Over the Bluegrass Festival returned Sunday, Aug. 24, to the Danville-Boyle County Airport for its second year, after the festival was canceled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With live entertainment, local vendors and family activities, the free event celebrated Boyle County and its first responders. Because of weather, the hot air balloons could not take flight, but aircraft festivities continued.
The festival returned in 2024 for the airport's 90th anniversary. Junction City Matters , a group working to bring more activities to Boyle County, sponsored the event, and organizers said all proceeds raised were donated to the cause.
