The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is pleading for help — a $20-million shortfall has paused construction of its new Oakville training school, potentially placing its future in jeopardy.

The charity, which assists individuals with disabilities through specialized dog guide programs, is currently located at 152 Wilson St , but has outgrown this facility.

To meet the growing demand for dog guides and better accommodate their clients during training, the organization was planning to move to an 89,000 square-foot, purpose-built building under construction near Joshua’s Creek Arena.

The cost to build the facility is around $80 million.
