Anthony Volpe has become the hot topic for the New York Yankees, and when that's happened throughout the course of his three-year career, it's rarely been a good sign.

Volpe is once again floundering at the plate after a brief hot streak post-All-Star Game. This has also been the worst defensive season of his career, and it's easy to observe his lack of confidence charging ground balls.

The Yankees finally decided Volpe had struggled long enough, benching him for their crucial Sunday series finale with the Boston Red Sox. Jose Caballero started at shortstop, and Volpe came in as a late-inning defensive replacement in New York's 7-2 win to avoid a four-game sweep.
