President Donald Trump raged against Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson as he threatened to send National Guard troops into the city.

The president has deployed troops to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and he is also threatening to do the same to Baltimore, Chicago and other Democratic-governed cities ostensibly to crack down on violent crime, and Trump posted an attack on Johnson after the mayor called his threat of a "military occupation" of his city "the most flagrant violation of our Constitution in the 21st Century."

"The incompetent Mayor of Chicago just stated that, in DC, where crime has been brought down to almost nothing, there have been no murders in 9 days, something which hasn’t happened in years, and people are safe again, only nine people have been arrested," Trump posted Monday morning on Truth Social. "That is wrong, hundreds of criminals have been held, captured, and arrested, and their guns have been taken away. DC IS SAFE AND BOOMING!!!"

Violent crime numbers have trended down since Trump sent troops two weeks ago into the nation's capital, where police said the last recorded homicide was Aug. 13, but D.C. crime statistics show weeklong stretches without any homicides have been recorded several other times this year.
