With summer vacation winding down and the school year upon us again, it seems an opportune time to check in with the teens in our life to see what the kids are saying these days.

Here’s a quick guide to the teen slang of the moment, with the caveat that this group’s lexicon is ever changing. After a week or two back together at school, the teens are sure to be throwing around some new words and phrases we haven’t heard yet.

These are 10 must-know terms, according to the 15-year-old and 13-year-old who live at my house.

Aura: Level of coolness. Sometimes associated with points. “She gained so much aura (or aura points) when she hit the game-winning shot.”
