WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Members of the National Guard in Washington, D.C., have started carrying weapons.

President Donald Trump has deployed thousands of federal law enforcement officers and National Guard troops to the streets of D.C.

He's threatened to deploy federal law enforcement and National Guard to Baltimore, Chicago and New York.

Two weeks ago, President Trump took over policing in D.C. He surged federal law enforcement and sent the National Guard he says to clean up crime and homelessness.

For the first time on Sunday. National Guard soldiers carried weapons while patrolling the nation's capital.
