A man has died after suffering a medical episode in an Asda store in Paignton, South Devon, on Sunday. The incident occurred around 11.20am when the man, believed to be in his 50s and on holiday in the area, collapsed shortly after entering the store to grab a trolley. Reports indicate that he suffered a seizure.

Shoppers and Asda staff immediately rushed to assist him, performing CPR until paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local reports.

A driver who had dropped the man off just minutes before the incident expressed gratitude to those who tried to help. He shared on the Spotted Paignton Facebook group, "To all those who helped the man who sadly passed away in Asda Paignton yesterday, I’d like to say thank you for all of your help. He was a true gentleman who was telling me how much he loves Devon and Paignton especially. He walked over to grab a trolley and just collapsed. A lady ran to his side and was with him until the end. He was down on holiday with his mum who thankfully was informed in person of his passing. I just wanted to say thank you to those that made him comfortable, a real credit to Paignton."

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed they were called by the ambulance service regarding the incident. A spokesperson stated, "A customer, a man in his 50s, was reported to have suffered a suspected medical episode and was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

This tragic event follows another recent incident involving the wife of former cricket star Duncan Pauline, who died during a trip to a Waitrose supermarket in Esher, Surrey. Emergency crews were called to the store after concerns for her safety, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Pauline expressed his devastation over the loss of his partner, who had been looking forward to retiring to Thailand in the near future.
