ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Atlanta’s oldest Black church is pausing to reflect and remember the March on Washington, which took place nearly 62 years ago on Aug. 28.
Social Justice Sunday was all about commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the March on Washington.
This is the famous march in where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech to a crowd of thousands.
The pastor at Big Bethel AME believes the service was about worship but also sparking meaningful conversations about where the nation is on civil rights, justice and equity.
“Here we are on Aug. 24 on the Sunday closest to it commemorating things that happened in the past but rallying our troops to charter our course for the future,” said Pastor Jay Augustine.
