LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) -- Two people, including a Polk County Sheriff's Office deputy, reported close encounters with gunfire in a neighborhood near Lake Wales on Saturday.

PCSO deputies were called to the area of Walk-In-Water Road and Cypresswood Drive, southeast of Lake Wales, at around 5:35 p.m.

The first deputy to arrive said she heard bullets flying over her head and took cover. Additional deputies arrived to track down the source of the gunfire.

A man was reaching inside the trunk of a Chevy Tahoe parked along Cypresswood Drive when he heard bullets strike the vehicle, according to PCSO. Two bullets were found lodged in the vehicle.

Neither the deputy nor the bystander were hurt.

Investigators said the gunfire came from 8854 Oakwood Drive, which is owned by Jonatan Omar Amaria
