Wrexham have reportedly opened talks with Rennes for midfielder Jordan James.

The Wales international could make a return to the Championship before the transfer window closes.

James, who has 20 caps for Wales to his name, has three years left on his contract with the Ligue 1 side having signed from Birmingham in August 2024.

Prior to that move, he made 95 Championship appearances, scoring nine goals from midfield.

Wrexham have identified the 21-year-old as their preferred target in the position.

It follows their rumoured interest in Southampton's Will Smallbone.

According to Sky Sports, the Red Dragons are looking to strike a deal with Rennes for James.

He has yet to feature for the club in their opening two matches so far this season.
