A stuck horse was rescued Sunday evening from the Sheyenne River near the Minnesota-North Dakota border.
Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a horse stuck in the river around 7 p.m. near a rural address in Argusville, N.D., according to the department.
Deputies were joined by the horse’s owner, local residents including Mitch Goodmanson, and emergency responders, all of whom partook in an effort to free the horse, which was "stuck in thigh-high mud and chest-deep water and could not free itself due to steep, cliff-like riverbanks."
As the horse showed signs of fatigue, Goodmanson placed a tow strap around the animal's neck to help keep its head above water.
