On the verge of trial for murder, a central Toledo man pleaded guilty Monday morning to involuntary manslaughter for another man’s Oct. 27 shooting death at a Halloween party in South Toledo.

Elijah Garza, 24, of the 2200 block of Dorr Street, faces up to 14 to 19½ years in prison when sentenced Sept. 22 by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ian English.

Garza, for whom a Saint Clair Shores, Mich., address was listed in an early case document, was charged with alternative counts of murder and felonious assault for the death of Zayn Disher, 24.

Case details were not presented during Garza’s plea hearing, which followed by about an hour a hearing in which pre-trial motions were discussed. A jury pool waited elsewhere in the courthouse for a call that never came.
