Queen’s Park is giving London nearly $12 million for meeting its housing targets for last year, but acknowledges changes to the housing incentive program may be needed amid bleak construction forecasts.
Premier Doug Ford and Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack, the province’s municipal affairs minister, announced the cash infusion atop city hall on Monday, awarding the municipality $11.9 million for meeting 95 per cent of its housing target for 2024, or 3,723 units out of 3,917.
“Two years ago, our government established the $1.2-billion Building Faster funding to encourage municipalities to speed up approvals, issue permits and get shovels in the ground faster – and London is a perfect example of this,” Ford said.
