(WJW) – President Donald Trump signed a series of new executive orders on Monday, including a new order related to punishment for burning the American flag.

Footage released on X by Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor Margo Martin shows the moment President Trump discussed and signed the new order while seated in the Oval Office.

“What the penalty is going to be, if you burn a flag, you get one year in jail, no early exits,” President Trump is heard saying in the video. “You will see flag burning stopping immediately.”

According to the order, the American Flag is “the most sacred and cherished symbol of the United States of America, and of American freedom, identity, and strength,” the White House website states.
