AMITE, La. (WVUE) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry will travel to Tangipahoa Parish on Monday (Aug. 25) to provide updates on the explosion and fire at Smitty’s Supply in Roseland.
Landry is scheduled to speak alongside local leaders and the Incident Unified Command Group at 3 p.m. in Amite. Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller, Roseland Mayor Van Showers, and emergency management officials are expected to join Landry.
The press conference comes just as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) takes over as lead agency on the response. Federal contractors are now tasked with containing hazardous materials, cleaning out waterways, and recovering unburned product from the site.
Officials said the fire at the Smitty’s Supply plant remained about 90 percent contained Sunday,
