Las Cruces-area teams kicked off from Aug. 22 to Aug. 23. We witnessed marquee non-district matchups between Las Cruces teams and Albuquerque teams, two of the top rivalries in the area and an 8-man team's hot start as it tries to make its way back to the championship game.

Las Cruces 61, Mayfield 6 (mercy-rule)
The Bulldawgs earned their 10th consecutive win over their rivals with a dominant, mercy-rule victory. Las Cruces scored touchdowns on every one of its drives, with quarterback Gunnar Guardiola passing for three touchdowns. One of those was thrown to running back Daniel Amaro, who ended the night with four total touchdowns and 231 total yards.
