PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – After growing to nearly 22,000 acres over the weekend, the Flat Fire continues to burn in Jefferson and Deschutes counties on Monday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved the use of federal funds to fight the fire after determining the potential for destruction could constitute a major disaster.
The wildfire burning two miles northeast of Sisters, Ore., has been 5% contained by firefighters overnight, officials announced. The cause of the fire remains unknown.

As of Monday morning, Level 1, 2 and 3 evacuations remain in effect under the direction of both the Deschutes County and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Offices.
