On August 20, Alaska Airlines took off from Phoenix Sky Harbor to San Diego International for the first time. It runs three times daily on mainline equipment. Its entry means the airport pair, which covers just 264 nautical miles (489 km) each way, has four carriers for the first time in two+ decades.
It is a big market. According to US Department of Transportation data for April 2024-March 2025, 1,977 daily round-trip local passengers flew between the two airports. Local passengers only fly between the two airports (they don't connect elsewhere).
